Success in an Online Class.

April 4, 2008

Many students taking online classes often ask me “how can I be successful in this class.” I have two tips:

  1. Read everything. Online classes rely on written communication. Your teachers provide you ALL the information you need to be successful. You have to read the instructions, assignments, discussion boards, etc. to get all the information you need.

  2. Make time for class. Just because your class is online doesn’t mean you don’t have to spend the same amount of time on it. Try to create a weekly schedule for your online class. Treat the time you schedule as “class time.” Don’t skip that time, just like you shouldn’t skip an campus based class meeting. Make sure you family and friends understand you won’t be available at during this time. It will make your online-class easier.

Online classes aren’t easier than traditional face-to-face classes, but if you implement these two tips you should be successful!
