Information for the new quarter!

December 13, 2007

Wow! It has been so busy around here with the holidays coming, the end of the Fall quarter and a new Winter quarter beginning soon. I have had lots of questions about the used steno machines the college has for sale. We have approximately 8 used machines for $860.  If you want to purchase one, give me a call or send me an e-mail.

Another hot topic right now is the user names and passwords for accounts. Many students don’t understand the difference between the myhjc portal for students and the myhjc e-mail accounts. We don’t assign your portal user name and password but we do assign your e-mail user name and initial password. Students often lose these during the quarter and find themselves lost when it comes time to check on financial aid or register classes for the next term. You should write down the website, user name, and password in a notebook and keep it with your important documents. I’m so excited because over the holidays the office staff gets a small break and we are going to be closed on December 24, 25, and 26 and the last half of the day on December 28. Most of us check our e-mails but with the holidays I’m sure that will be limited so if you have a question, now is a good time to ask. The upcoming week is going to be a busy one for me. I will be shipping out textbooks to our completely online students. We have this cool new online ordering system and I’m anxious to try it out. As usual, students who have classes on campus can pick up their books the first day of class.

Well, I hope everyone has a fantastic Holiday and a Happy New Year!

When do I re-apply for finanical aid?

December 5, 2007

Many students are asking, “Is it too early to re-apply for my financial aid for next year?”

Yes, it is!  Remember, 2008-09 federal financial aid applications will not be available online until after January 1, 2008.  And, if you are able to find a rare paper application, it won’t be accepted until after January 1st either.  The feds are begging all students to apply online and are holding on tightly to their paper apps.  So, enjoy the holidays, and address financial aid after January 1!
